Found the instructions here: https://virtualizationreview.com/Blogs/Virtual-Insider/2013/02/Back-Up-Hyper-V-VMs.aspx
Open “Turn on and off windows features” and Install “Windows server backup.
When you have the option to select the type of backup click on “custom”.
You can then click on Add Items and include your Hyper-v host and VM.
This is great and adds itself to the regular backup process.
If you’re just looking for testing something out try the “Checkpoint” feature. That’s just the Microsoft parlance for snapshot if you’re more familiar with VMWare.
